Weekly Update 10/15/17

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I just came back from a biking trip in Vermont, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Once again, please fully read this email as it is, once again, full of important information.
For those new to emails….welcome to my “Weekly Updates”! This is where the most important information can be found for Chorus, Chorale, and Spotlight. It’s very important you read the parts of this email that pertain to your child’s performing group, as they may not be involved in everything. 
The read-throughs for “Les Mis” were very encouraging. We are going to have an amazing production, and I can’t wait to start rehearsals tomorrow.

Reminder: If students lose their music or workbooks, they can print them out from my website under “Print at Home” or “Chorus” links. 

Past Due: The last page of the handbook was due on September 15th. If you have misplaced or lost the handbook, you can print it out from the homepage on my website: www.roslynmschorus.orgYou can also send me an email saying you acknowledge the concert dates, concert attire, and that you can use my website for handouts and information, and I will mark it down on PowerSchool. As of right now, assignments that are missing/late are 0’s in my gradebook. 

The website: Please try to find answers to frequently asked questions on my website. I have sections for NYSSMA, All-County, Spotlight, Chorale, Chorus, as well as calendars, sign-ups, printables, and more. This is a key resource for you this year.

ALL-COUNTY: All-County nominations have been made. Selections will be announced at the end of October.

1. This week rehearsals are the following (Students should check the scene breakdown page I gave them to see if they are needed at rehearsals…”x” means they are needed…”blank” means they are not needed):
Monday (2:45-4:45)- Scene I, “Prologue” (All Boys)/Backstage meeting from 3:00-3:30 
Wednesday (2:45-4:45)- Scene I, “Prologue”, Part II, (All Boys)
Thursday (2:45-4:45)- Scene II, “End of the Day”, (All girls, select boys)
2. Students should bring a pencil, their script, water, snacks, and homework to each rehearsal. No phones are allowed while rehearsing. 
3. Please pick up your child PROMPTLY at 4:45. Any child that is not picked up by 5:00 must get on the late bus. No child will allowed to stay unsupervised, and the building closes at 5:00.
4. On October 30th at 4:00, there will be a Friends of Spotlight (our parent organization) meeting in the chorus room. All parents interested in helping with ANY part of the show (sets, costumes, advertisements, tickets, etc.) should attend. You can contact the Friends of Spotlight (info located on my website) for more information.
5. The FULL calendar is on my website on the homepage if you scroll down, as well as under the Spotlight tab.
6. Any student would like to get involved in backstage, there will be an initial meeting on Monday, October 16th (TOMORROW) from 3:00-3:30. Any student who would like to be involved in backstage must attend that meeting. 

**CHORALE (7th/8th grade select chorus)
1. The new Chorale schedule this year will Mondays and Wednesdays with sectionals on Fridays. You will not need to attend every Friday. This week the schedule is: 

2. Thanks to Mrs. Weisman (Sophie’s mom), we will be selling personalized T-Shirts and Sweatshirts for Chorale for us to wear at the Jets game, and other performances, or just to school! Order forms are due OCTOBER 20th. If everyone turns in their forms early, we can get our shirts/sweatshirts earlier!
3. Please check the Chorale calendar on my website regularly, as I update it all the time. You can even add that google calendar to your own by pressing “ADD CALENDAR” at the bottom of the calendar. 
4. We will be adding a performance at the end of the year for 8th graders to welcome the new 6th grade members into Chorale. This will be a farewell performance with solos, duets, trios, etc. from any genre. We will also include songs that Chorale sang throughout the year with the 7th graders. More to come!
5. We are singing the National Anthem at a Jets game on December 3rd. Tickets and lunch are included for Chorale students, but if we have more than 10 parents who want to come, we can get a group rate for parents. They still haven’t gotten back to me with how much the group rate tickets are, but as soon as I find out, you will know!
6. As I mentioned last week, our concert has been moved from December 5th to December 13th. 

1. IMPORTANT: New Concert Dates (Final change): 
December 5th- 6th grade, 7pm, at the HS, Students arrive at 6:30pm
December 11th- 7th/8th grade, 7pm, at the HS, students arrive at 6:30pm
2. All chorus students have received new pieces we are learning in addition to the ones we already have worked on. Students can print these pieces out if they lose them on my website under the “Chorus” tab and their ensemble. Recordings of the songs are also posted so students can listen.
2. Ask your child about “+” signs during class. 3 cancel an unprepared, 6 cancel a 60, and 9 cancel a 0. Many students already have 4 or 5 based on effort in class.

3. Reminder to make sure you start thinking ahead for concert attire. Formal black bottoms, white blank tops, and black shoes are required for concerts. 
4. As mentioned in the introduction, please access the “Print at Home” link as well for anything you have misplaced. 
5. Students do not need to work in their workbooks at home, but are expected to work on them when they sit down at their seats in class.
6. A written, end of the quarter, open book quiz on the worksheets in their workbooks. It will be on November 6th and 7th depending on what day students have chorus that week. Students have the answers to all questions that could be asked at the back of their workbooks. Students may bring a one 8.5x 11 double-sided piece of paper with as much information as they can fit.
