Dear Musical Families,

This week flew by! We have a lot of updates this week, so please take the time to read through everything.
If your child signed up for NYSSMA, they can schedule an appointment with me during extra-help to work on their solos. I will be hosting a NYSSMA meeting Wednesday, February 15th at 2:45pm that will last about 30 minutes to discuss procedures for NYSSMA and answer any questions you may have.
For those of you new to emails, you can find all previous newsletters on the website:www.roslynmschorus.org/newsletters.

The following are updates for Spotlight, Chorale, and Chorus.
Sincerely,
Cyndi Feinman

Chorale

1. Thank you to many of you who came on time to rehearsals this week. Rehearsals begin promptly at 7am. There have been many days now where students are arriving at 7:15 when half of our rehearsal is already over. We move quickly and it’s very important that everyone is there on time so they don’t miss anything.

2. Rehearsals will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week and begin at 7am.

3. The Grease Medley should be in shortly, please be patient!

Dear Musical Families,

I hope everyone had an easy first FULL week back. I know things were crazy with All-County, rehearsals, and getting things settled in the new year. Thank you for all getting your NYSSMA forms in this week. For those of you new to emails, you can find all previous newsletters on the website: www.roslynmschorus.org/newsletters.
The OUTSIDE summer chorus opportunity in Albany for the MS Honor Chorus, American Choral Directors Association is August 12th and 13th. This opportunity is NOT through the school, but I would like to share it with you. The fee is $125 plus hotel and meals for Friday and Saturday. For those of you who missed the description, here it is below, copied and pasted:
I have accepted an extra-curricular position as Co-Chair of the American Choral Director’s Association, NY Division for Middle School Age Children. I am facilitating and adjudicating auditions for the NYSSMA Summer Conference Honor Choir in Albany, 2017. Parents must chaperone their own child. Students rehearse for two days and then perform in a concert. Andrea Ramsey is conducting, a fabulous children’s conductor. Because I am one of the judges, students can audition directly with me at school, rather than submitting a recording online. This is a great opportunity for our students! Again, please let me know if you are interested.

If your child signed up for NYSSMA, they can schedule an appointment with me during extra-help to work on their solos. I will be hosting a NYSSMA meeting in February for parents to answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to having Monday off. Please enjoy the three day weekend! The following are updates for Spotlight, Chorale, and Chorus.
Sincerely,
Cyndi Feinman

2. Because next week is a Tuesday/Thursday week for Chorale, as was this week, students in Jazz Band will go to Mr. Gazzo on THURSDAY and to Chorale on Tuesday. Students not in jazz band will still come to Chorale on Thursday morning.
3. Cristi Cary Miller has listened to our initial recording of “Dors Dors Betit Bebe” and said we sounded beautiful! She gave us a few notes to work on before we make another recording.

Happy New Year! I’m so happy to be back and this week has been a very smooth transition into 2017. We have a lot to look forward to. I hope everyone has a restful weekend. Below are the Weekly Updates for Chorale, Chorus, and Spotlight.

All the best,

Cyndi Feinman

Chorale

1. Next week will have Chorale Thursday Jazz Band rehearsals from now on. Thanks, Mr. Gazzo!

2. Our students will be happy that I have found a NEW “Grease” medley..one that’s much better!

3. We are adding the songs “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” with ukuleles.

Thank you all for your support. It means so much to have such dedicated parents invested in our success.

Have a terrific weekend!

12/23

Good morning,
I have decided to consolidate all my weekly updates into one email, and you can just read the sections that apply to you and your child. This will eliminate a few emails since many of you are signed up for all three updates. I wish everyone a happy holiday, safe travels if you are traveling, and a happy new year!!
Just a note to everyone:
The Carnegie Hall Honor Choir auditions are recorded auditions. I do not do anything except nominate any child who wants to pursue the auditions. These auditions are highly competitive! I am also not sure of total cost since it is not listed on the website. This is an EXTERNAL audition, so the only thing I can do is nominate your child. I do not have any details except those listed on the website: http://honorsperformance.org/middle-school-honors-performance/. Also, it states the initial rounds of auditions is over. That is true, but they are still accepting nominations. I have received several emails from those of you who would like me to nominate your child, and I will do so. In order to audition, your child must sing a NYSSMA-like solo, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be a song from the manual. Don’t worry about levels or anything like that. Simply record a song (can be on your phone) and apply. Good luck!
The summer choir is open to any child who wants to participate. The exact dates, as stated in my last email, are August 12th and 13th in Albany. You have the option of arriving on the 11th. In order to participate, students simply need to tell me they want me to nominate them. If I nominate them, they are in! Our students have the advantage over other students who have to go through an audition process. Again, many of you have expressed interest in this as well. I will send hard copies of information in 2017!
Warmest Regards,
Cyndi Feinman

12/9/16

Good morning,
Once again, thank you for signing up for the Chorale E-Newsletter! A copy of this can also be found on the website under “Chorale” and “Newsletters.”

1. Next week we will have Chorale on Tuesday and Thursday, 7am.
2. This a reminder: Thanks to Mr. Gazzo, we have found a way to have Tuesday morning rehearsals again if an “A” day falls on a Tuesday. Again, I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience for past Tuesday rehearsals. If your child is in Jazz Band, from now on, they will come to Chorale, not Jazz Band, on Tuesdays. Mr. Gazzo will be excusing the students in Chorale from rehearsals if they coincide with Jazz Band. This is an extremely generous gesture from Mr. Gazzo, and we feel this is in the best interest of our students.
3. There are no in-school rehearsals next week.
4. The concert will be at the high school, and students should plan to arrive at 7pm. The concert starts at 7:30pm.
5. The dress code for our concert is formal black bottoms and formal white tops. Please refrain from wearing sneakers.
6. Please continue to check the website: www.roslynmschorus.org for last minute updates and calendar information.
7. We will be recording the song “Dors Dors Petit Bebe” for the composer who wrote the song as its first recording. This is just a voice recording, but we have a special opportunity to premier the piece in a recording. More details to follow.
